August Draws

Just a cute little minion to brighten your day!

Well, hello there! It certainly has been awhile! I did not intend to take such a hiatus, yet here we are. August has made so much progress in the past year. Here is a sample of work created during his 5th grade year. Enjoy!

Today was the first day of summer vacation! August woke up early and started drawing. For some reason, he was inspired by the cover of this DVD: When I dropped him off at Grandma's house (so I could go to work for a couple hours), the drawing was taking shape. To me, it looked like a figure emerging from the darkness. I was excited to see where this was heading. I returned a little over 2 hours later and the drawing was complete! At about four inches tall, the drawing is fairly small scale. Zoom in to look at it because there is a lot of detail, especially in the eyes.  My pictures don't do it justice...it really is better in person!

Have you seen the animated movie Sing? In the movie, there is a quirky, old lady chameleon who has a glass eye. August decided to re-invent this character in human form. Here is what he came up with: And a closer-up shot: When I asked him about his drawing, he mentioned the texture of the skin which he modeled after the palm of his hand. He also said he worked hard on the divot under the nose (he called it by it's actual name but of course I can't remember what that is.) For reference, the drawing is about 4 inches tall. I'll be sure to post an update when he makes progress with this drawing. I have a feeling he is going to complete this one!
