First Drawing of Summer!

Today was the first day of summer vacation! August woke up early and started drawing. For some reason, he was inspired by the cover of this DVD:


When I dropped him off at Grandma's house (so I could go to work for a couple hours), the drawing was taking shape. To me, it looked like a figure emerging from the darkness. I was excited to see where this was heading.


I returned a little over 2 hours later and the drawing was complete! At about four inches tall, the drawing is fairly small scale. Zoom in to look at it because there is a lot of detail, especially in the eyes.  My pictures don't do it justice...it really is better in person!

Birthday Cupcake

We are heading to a 10th Birthday party momentarily and I wanted to pop on to show you August’s quick creation. Normally, he would make a card, but having just moved last week, the blank cards are currently unaccounted for in one of the basement boxes. So, a blank envelope and some colored pencils were all we had at the moment. August asked me what the birthday boy’s favorite color is and I guessed green. The birthday boy wears glasses so it truly is a personalized “card.” I think it’s adorable!

Lady with a Glass Eye

Have you seen the animated movie Sing? In the movie, there is a quirky, old lady chameleon who has a glass eye. August decided to re-invent this character in human form. Here is what he came up with: And a closer-up shot: When I asked him about his drawing, he mentioned the texture of the skin which he modeled after the palm of his hand. He also said he worked hard on the divot under the nose (he called it by it's actual name but of course I can't remember what that is.) For reference, the drawing is about 4 inches tall. I'll be sure to post an update when he makes progress with this drawing. I have a feeling he is going to complete this one!
